London | July 31, 2010

July 30th the baby blue minivan leaves, taking its downriver wiffle representatives on their journey into the cows, corn, and soy known as central Ohio. No Lugnuts this year, we're not so mechanical. Jammers are likewise left to the past. This year it's a combination aerial assault and quirky, small-ball strategies to bring home the runs, and as always: defense, defense, defense. We covet our nuts... runs, hide and bury them all around the grounds. Nobody else will find any of either of these easily when they step onto the same field as the flying squirrels of downriver wiffle!

Rally Around the Flag-a-Palooza!

June 26th @ Brownstown Middle School
20135 Inkster, Romulus, MI

- 2 game round robin format w/double-elimination playoffs
- Looking to field 9 teams, w/ 8 advancing into the playoffs

We will be using 2 fields for this year's tournament(s); the first will be where Pacman Park sat last year, with a modified fence and dimensions in right and right-center field. The second field will be built on the opposite side of the tennis courts using the tall fence as the right field wall out to center. 2 fields will add much to the game play, such as less down time between games to keep participants active and loose. Also, center field at 1 field is SW and the second faces SE, which means pitches may behave different depending on winds and likewise the ball may travel differently when hit. This results in possible advantages or different game strategy employed based on where the game is played. In the playoffs higher seeds will be allowed to choose their field if it is open at the time when the game is set to start.

Rules are the same as in 2009:
- pitcher and 3 fielders behind him on defense, can bat more if you desire
- 30" x 22" strike zone
- 5 ball - 2 strike count
- No infield fly rule
- 45' base paths and pitching mound
- First pitch strike without a swing is an out.
- Intentionally stepping into pitches will be called a strike
- Force out in pitcher's circle applies to the lead runner.
... And you all know how the game of baseball is played.

Only exception is the tag rule; now tagging up on a caught fly ball will be allowed only from 3rd to home.

Get your team together and let's get excited!
